Are you ready to FAIL?
As the new financial year begins, we often reflect on the achievements of the previous year and have a rough plan for the next financial year. But how often do we really challenge ourselves and our business?
I recently listened to Katie Brennan, Australian rules footballer with and captain of the Richmond Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW), speak at the Resource Industry Network Women in Business Luncheon who talked about the acronym F.A.I.L. and rather than this wording taking on a normally negative tone, Katie inspired me to FAIL and seeing it as my First Attempt In Learning.
All my life I have had this fear of failure, being seen as stupid, not being abreast of everything, not knowing the answers to any question that comes my way and as I get older this fear has somewhat subsided as I now understand if I want to keep learning I can never have all the answers and if I want to take my business to the next level I can’t be afraid to FAIL. For every hurdle there is a stumble (and some would say a failure) but it’s the ability to learn from the stumble, to take a new approach, to perfect the stride and to take the challenge for the next risk (and hopefully reward!)
If you haven’t already, take the time to reflect, learn and determine what your next risk in business is. If you are prepared to learn from this risk if it doesn’t work out 100% on track, there won’t be a failure, rather than continued learning for you and your business.
And who knows, your team might learn something along the way to add to their mentoring & you inspiring them to have a go.
