How to prepare my team for a slow down

When business slows down, it is normal for team members to get nervous about whether they may lose their jobs. So what do we need to communicate to them and how can they help us to prevent this happening?

One of the best ways to deal with a problem is to involve everyone in determining a solution.  The old saying of “Many heads are better than one” applies here and we all know it’s also easier to implement changes when the team have played a part in deciding on those changes.

Here are some ways to lead your team through this discussion:

  1. Communicate > the challenges facing the business and the potential effect on the team.
  2. Ask for input > as to potential solutions. Our advice is to be careful not to belittle suggestions put forward but instead to encourage everyone to be actively involved.
  3. Discuss the pros and cons of each solution > and settle on those that you think can move the business forward in a positive direction.
  4. Determine a time frame for that implementation > who is going to be responsible for the changes being implemented and who is actually going to do the do.

Often if the team is all aware of the challenges and the affect on their own jobs, they will be more motivated to see the change through to successful completion. It will also make those team members feel more valued and included in a difficult time.

Your team often have the answers to help you through and being part of the solution enables them to implement this and build loyalty.

How you can you empower your business by empowering your team?
